19.09.09 Selcuk

First thing in the morning we went and saw Virgin Mary’s chapel and grave. We were shocked by the amount of tourist that had come there to light candles. Then we also went to the tomb of the Seven sleepers which was closed. It is amazing to drive through peach and olive orchards and buy peaches by the road side. The size of the peaches here are like water melons. We then drove into town and walked around the market place in the center of town. Since today was market day. Bought pista nuts and olives and had lunch in town, kebabs of course. In the afternoon we drove to the beach which is 8 km outside town and we had a swim there. I thought the water was a bit cold, but Susanne and Daniel loved it. Took the car for a drive on the beach, a few km down, these guys even has ATV’s and horses which they hire out on the beach.
After this we picked up Mummy and went and saw the ruins of Basilica of St. Johns. St. John came here twice between the year 37 – 48 AD with the Virgin Mary, and he wrote his gospel on Ayasuluk hill. It is an amazing place which was destroyed by an earthquake. Played cards and had a few drinks, after that we had dinner in town in our favorite restaurant, by now we know all the local shop keepers, which sell carpets and trinkets from India.
